Arakku Red and Deep Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Saree with Kamalam Mayil Butta and Silk Thread Zari Border
Arakku Red and Deep Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Saree with Kamalam Mayil Butta and Silk Thread Zari Border
At the Miami Heritage Evening, where the South Asian diaspora dresses in the silk of their roots, this arakku red Kanchi Pattu saree arrives with the warmth of ceremony and the quiet power of a silk-only weave — a saree that embodies the art of Korvai Kanchipuram weaving. Kamalam and Mayil buttas are woven across the arakku red body in coloured silk thread, each one a bloom of devotional craft without a thread of zari.
The body is woven in arakku red — that deep, ceremonial red with the warmth of earth and the authority of tradition — in pure mulberry silk. Kamalam lotus and Mayil peacock buttas are placed at measured intervals across the field in coloured silk thread, the butta motifs rendered in the Pattupet tradition where coloured silk threads create patterned rhythm and visual depth without the use of zari. Each butta is a small declaration of the weaver's hand, silk speaking only in silk.
The border is woven in a deep green ground with coloured silk thread zari bands in the Korvai tradition — body and border woven separately and structurally interlocked on the loom — the arakku red and deep green combination carrying the full ceremonial weight of South Indian silk heritage. The pallu continues the Korvai tradition, the green and silk thread array cascading across its width in devotional splendour.
