Lotus Pink Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Gandaberunda Motifs and Gold Zari Border

Lotus Pink Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Gandaberunda Motifs and Gold Zari Border

A luminous lotus pink with an almost pearlescent radiance. Soft and delicate in gentle light, this handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram saree takes on a beautiful golden warmth as light travels across the silk. Its radiance comes not only from the silk itself, but from the fine zari threads woven into its measured Zari Kattam checks.

❖ Handwoven in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu — this saree spent 16 days on the loom, woven by artisan families who have practiced this craft for generations.

Zari Kattam is the traditional Kanchipuram technique in which fine metallic zari threads intersect across the silk body, forming a precise grid. These woven intersections catch the light from different directions, giving the fabric its characteristic luminosity.

Within the checks sit magnificent Gandaberunda motifs, the mythical double-headed bird associated with strength, protection and South Indian royal heritage. Woven into the body alongside the zari, the motifs bring a richness of detail without overwhelming the soft pink ground.

Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A magnificent gold zari border frames the soft pink body. Along its ornamental bands, traditional Mayil Kann, or peacock-eye motifs, are woven through a combination of coloured silk threads and zari.

The vivid pink-purple silk-thread accents stand out against the warm metallic gold, creating beautifully defined rows of tiny geometric detailing. The contrast between coloured silk and reflective zari gives the border a richness that becomes especially apparent when viewed closely.

Pallu: The pallu is an expansive field of shimmering gold. A dense, finely woven grid of zari covers its surface, creating a continuous metallic lustre that appears almost molten when the silk moves.

Narrow ornamental bands with coloured silk-thread accents frame the gold, echoing the Mayil Kann detailing of the border. The generous zari work gives the saree its ceremonial grandeur, while the lotus-pink silk preserves its softness.

Styling: Pair with a matching lotus-pink silk blouse for a seamless look, or draw from the deep pink-purple Mayil Kann detailing for contrast. Antique gold jewellery, traditional temple jewellery or a single statement necklace complement the radiance of the zari. A beautiful choice for festive occasions, ceremonies, cultural gatherings and special occasions.

Slight color variations due to screen and lighting; daylight photos/videos available on request.

Frequently bought together

What gives this lotus-pink Kanchipuram saree its luminous appearance?
The natural lustre of the pink mulberry silk is enhanced by the fine metallic zari threads woven into the Zari Kattam body. As light moves across the fabric, the silk and intersecting gold lines reflect it differently, creating a warm, changing radiance.
What is special about the Gandaberunda motifs?
The Gandaberunda is a traditional mythical double-headed bird associated with strength and royal heritage. The motifs are individually woven into the checked silk body, giving the saree distinctive heritage detailing.
What is the Mayil Kann design in the border?
Mayil Kann means peacock eye. In this saree, small traditional peacock-eye motifs are woven through a combination of coloured silk thread and zari, creating vivid pink-purple geometric accents against the rich gold border.
How is the gold zari pallu constructed?
The pallu features a broad metallic zari field with an exceptionally fine, dense woven grid. Repeated ornamental bands and coloured silk-thread accents give definition to the lustrous surface.
Does the saree include a blouse piece, and can it be stitched?
The saree is 6.3 metres long, including a 0.8-metre running blouse piece. Custom Blouse Stitching is complimentary with this saree during the limited-time Diwali offer; it is regularly $30.
