Kathiripoo Purple Zari Kattam Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Antique Gold Floral Border

Kathiripoo Purple Zari Kattam Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Antique Gold Floral Border

Kathiripoo Purple — Where Twilight Meets Molten Gold

There is a particular purple that belongs to the hour when daylight gives way to dusk. Deep, velvety and touched by the colour of ripening jamun fruit, this Kathiripoo purple Kanchipuram carries that twilight beauty in every fold. Shades of aubergine and dusky plum settle into the richness of dense, lustrous pure silk, while antique-gold zari glimmers across the surface like the last sunlight catching a temple's carved stone.

❖ Handwoven in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu — this saree spent 16 days on the loom, woven by artisan families who have practiced this craft for generations.

A fine lattice of intersecting antique-gold zari lines runs across the purple silk, the checked structure that defines a Zari Kattam Kanchipuram, with small golden floral buttas rising from the checks. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

The Body — A Thousand Fine Lines of Gold

The body is woven in an intricate Zari Kattam, its delicate intersecting gold lines creating a fine lattice over the purple silk. Scattered floral buttas rise gently from the checks, each one a small golden bloom against the darkness. The zari gives the weave an extraordinary radiance: the silk appears quietly luminous in shade and magnificently alive under warm light.

The Border — A Floral Tapestry

The broad border is a celebration of intricate floral zari craftsmanship, with densely arranged blossoms, curling vines and beautifully delineated traditional ornamental bands. Its Banarasi-inspired floral richness is framed by a deep brown-black silk field, creating a striking contrast with the brilliant antique-gold zari. The composition feels architectural, almost like a richly carved doorway of an old South Indian temple.

The Pallu — Gold in Full Splendour

The elaborate pallu opens into an extensive field of closely woven gold zari, with repeating geometric textures and carefully arranged floral and ornamental columns. Its interplay of golden pattern and dark silk gives the entire drape a grand, ceremonial finish. A pallu made to be admired as much as worn.

Styling Notes

Pair with a deep aubergine silk blouse for a seamless, regal appearance, or choose antique-gold tissue silk for a striking contrast. Temple jewellery, a single statement jhumka or a sculptural gold choker will beautifully complement the lustre of the weave.

An exquisite choice for Deepavali gatherings, wedding ceremonies, Karthigai Deepam celebrations, temple functions and milestone family occasions.
