Emerald Green Pure Silk Kancheepuram Zari Kattam Saree with Arakku Sorgavaasal Mayil Zari Border

Emerald Green Pure Silk Kancheepuram Zari Kattam Saree with Arakku Sorgavaasal Mayil Zari Border

This green has depth. Emerald, leaf and forest tones move through the silk as it turns, while the fine Zari Kattam grid appears almost suspended over the surface in gold. Small zari buttas interrupt the checks with concentrated points of light.

❖ This saree spent 16 days on the loom in Kanchipuram, woven in certified pure silk by artisans who learned the craft from their elders.

Woven in the Zari Kattam tradition, with a fine gold zari grid across the body and spaced buttas, in pure mulberry silk. A saree of this type represents approximately 16 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

The contrast border is a dark Arakku-maroon, warm, garnet-like and beautifully grounding against the green. Its principal motif is the magnificent Sorgavaasal Mayil, where a peacock sits within an arched frame. Repeated in gold zari, it creates the appearance of a miniature architectural frieze running along the edge of the saree.

The pallu moves fully into the deeper red family with layered traditional zari work, giving the drape a stately finish.

Emerald and Arakku are made for jewel combinations: antique gold, rubies, emeralds, temple jewellery or old-cut stones all sit naturally against it. Especially beautiful under warm lamps for Navratri, Vijayadashami, Diwali, temple celebrations, festive occasions, ceremonies, cultural gatherings and special occasions.

Blouse Piece Included: 0.8m running blouse piece. See our Blouse Stitching Guide.
