Peacock Teal Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Zari Kattam Saree with Orange Selvedge

Peacock Teal Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Zari Kattam Saree with Orange Selvedge

A colour borrowed from a peacock feather where blue turns into green, this teal Kanjivaram is as vivid as the shade beneath monsoon trees after rain. Fine gold checks and tiny kamalam blooms soften its brightness; a fiery orange thread along the edge brings the warmth of a temple lamp.

❖ Woven by hand in Kanchipuram over 16 days on the loom, a piece of a centuries-old weaving tradition, made with certified pure silk.

Woven in the Zari Kattam tradition, its peacock-teal silk body carries fine, evenly drawn zari checks in the Zari Kattam tradition. Small, widely spaced kamalam buttas flicker above the grid, letting the blue-green silk retain a generous, luminous expanse. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Golden bands of yaanai, mayil and vanam-inspired leafy motifs create a compact illustrated register. Below them, closely disciplined Veldhari lines form the stepped horizontal rhythm of a Varisaipet border; a clear flame-orange selvedge adds a fine finishing contrast.

Pallu: The peacock-teal pallu opens into a wide, richly worked zari field, with delicate all-over patterning and a defined ornamental border register.

Styling: Let the orange selvedge lead the styling with a burnt-orange blouse, traditional gold studs and a loose braid for Deepavali. For a winter wedding reception, try a deep peacock-green blouse with a sculptural gold cuff; the cool silk and warm zari hold their own under evening light.

Frequently bought together

Why does this peacock-teal saree have such a gentle gold shimmer?
The zari is organised as fine Zari Kattam checks across the silk, rather than covering the entire body. That structure catches light at small intervals and lets the teal colour remain prominent.
What are the small gold motifs spread over the teal body?
They are kamalam, or lotus, buttas spaced evenly across the saree. Their modest size contrasts with the more elaborate elephant, peacock and vanam-inspired work in the border.
Is this more blue or more green when worn?
It sits in the peacock-neck blue-green family, reading as luminous teal. Colour can shift slightly with daylight, room lighting and screens, so daylight photographs can be requested.
Can a contrast orange blouse be custom made for this saree?
Idam Living can stitch a blouse to your measurements, including an orange contrast design if you prefer. Share your size, sleeve length and neckline references when choosing the stitching service.
How should I store the gold-zari pallu?
Dry clean only, store folded in soft muslin away from direct sunlight, and refold from time to time. Avoid spraying perfume onto either the silk or zari.
