Why a Made-to-Measure Blouse Changes Everything: The Idam Living Difference

A blouse is one of the most personal pieces in a saree wardrobe, and comfort and fit can look a little different for everyone. We're proud to offer both standard size blouses and made-to-measure custom blouses — many of our clients love the ease of a standard size, and for those who want a closer, more tailored feel, a made-to-measure blouse takes that comfort a step further.

Blouse stitching is a skill in its own right — cutting fabric accurately, shaping cups correctly, and fitting a bodice well takes real expertise, and hand embroidery is a tradition passed down through generations of artisans. Our team is trained in advanced blouse stitching, understands how different fits suit different patterns and body types, and is always learning and trying new cuts and silhouettes so our designs stay current.

Made to Measure, for an Even Better Fit

With a made-to-measure blouse, you share your measurements directly through the WhatsApp button on any product page, or choose your size from our size chart if that's easier. Either way, the blouse that reaches you is cut and stitched specifically for you — a close, tailored fit that many clients find more comfortable than a standard size, especially for pieces worn for long hours at weddings and celebrations.

Designed In-House, Only Available Here

Every design in our Festive Blouses collection is designed and stitched by Idam Living — you won't find these exact pieces anywhere else. We stock an extensive fabric library, including cotton, silk, silk cotton, Chanderi, tissue silk, velvet, Banarasi, Ajrakh, block-printed cotton, modal, mulberry silk, and raw silk, along with quality embroidery materials — including the high-quality kemp stones used in our Tanjore collection blouses.

Our blouses are designed and stitched at the Idam Living studio in India and shipped to you from there. For the rare occasion an alteration is needed after delivery, we also work with a trusted local tailor here in New Jersey.

Built to Be Passed Down

A well-made blouse isn't disposable — it's a wardrobe staple. Many of our clients are now regulars: women who bought their first Idam Living blouse years ago are back for their daughters' very first blouse, and mothers who wear our pieces regularly keep coming back for more. That kind of return isn't about convenience — it's about trust in the fit and the craftsmanship. These are the pieces that become part of a family's saree collection for the long term, not just for one event.

You Don't Need a Saree Purchase to Order a Blouse

While the large majority of our saree clients also order an Idam Living blouse to match, a saree purchase was never a requirement — you're welcome to order a blouse on its own, any time, to pair with a saree you already own.

Every Blouse Comes With

  • A made-to-measure fit, based on your own measurements, or a standard size from our size chart
  • Pure cotton lining throughout, with padding available on request
  • A 3-stitch margin at the side seams of the body and sleeve, for future alterations
  • Fabric and embroidery materials sourced for durability and quality
  • A pure cotton dust bag for storage

If you're building toward your dream ethnic saree collection, a well-fitted, well-made blouse is the piece that makes every saree in that collection wearable for years — and eventually, an heirloom passed down rather than replaced.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a standard size and a made-to-measure blouse?
A standard size blouse follows our size chart and is a great option for many clients. A made-to-measure blouse is cut and stitched to your own measurements for an even closer, more tailored fit — you choose whichever feels right for you.

Do I need to buy a saree from Idam Living to order a blouse?
No — a saree purchase isn't required. You can order an Idam Living blouse on its own to pair with any saree you already own, though most of our saree clients do order a matching blouse.

How long does a blouse take to arrive?
Blouses are delivered within three weeks from your order date, with an additional four to five days for embroidered pieces.

What fabrics and materials do you work with?
We stock an extensive fabric library — cotton, silk, silk cotton, Chanderi, tissue silk, velvet, Banarasi, Ajrakh, block-printed cotton, modal, mulberry silk, and raw silk — along with quality embroidery materials, including the kemp stones used in our Tanjore collection blouses.

Where are Idam Living blouses made?
Every blouse is designed and stitched at our own studio in India and shipped from there. For the rare case an alteration is needed after delivery, we also work with a trusted local tailor in New Jersey.

Can an Idam Living blouse really become an heirloom?
Yes — many of our clients are regulars who return for their daughters' first blouse or their mothers' blouses, which is why we build every piece with durable materials meant to last well beyond a single season.
